David visited the City of San Antonio’s Financial Empowerment Center because he wanted to improve his credit score.
He had previously suffered an injury that left him with thousands of dollars in hospital bills and unable to find substantial employment. At the time, a state agency discharged David’s debt, releasing him from any payment responsibilities. However, years later, the debt turned up on his credit score.
David’s San Antonio Financial Empowerment Center counselor reviewed his credit report and noticed multiple inaccuracies. The counselor assisted in sending verification letters to all three collection agencies, and disputed each with the credit bureaus. Success! All three credit bureaus corrected the errors from David’s credit report.
“In just over a month, my credit score went from 633 to 739. I can’t begin to tell you all the ways my life has changed because of that help and this program. It has been life altering and I am forever grateful.”
After raising his credit score, David was able to do things that hadn’t been an option for him. David said, “For the first time ever, I was able to buy a car with no money down and affordable payments. It’s the first new vehicle I have ever owned!”
