After losing her husband, Lucia felt overwhelmed with bills. As a single parent, she needed to reduce her debt and save money for home repairs, a new car, and her daughters’ college education.

Lucia began meeting with a counselor at the Washtenaw FEC to go over her monthly budget; her main goal was to increase her credit score. Her counselor helped her plan for the future and implement new strategies to pay off her debt. Lucia was able to pay off all seven of her outstanding debts, raising her credit score.

While working with her financial counselor, Lucia also opened a savings account. She is excited to increase her savings and continuing improving her credit to build a strong financial future for herself and her daughters.

“Having someone to talk to about my monthly budget and clarity and where I spend my money has helped. I have saved over $3,000 learning about where I spend my money and resolved over $15,000 in debt. The ongoing opportunity to talk to my counselor helps me stay on top of my finances.”
