Richard and Velma sought counseling from the Shreveport Financial Empowerment Center after they were overwhelmed with credit card debt and were denied financing to purchase a house. “When we first started working with Ms. Harris at the Shreveport FEC in April 2020, our [credit] scores were in the high 400 to mid-500. We were desperate for help.”
However, after a few sessions with their counselor, Richard and Velma were able to raise their credit scores from the 400s to 620, and handle the negative items on their credit reports.
“We established a budget and are able to keep all bills paid on time and build our savings. If we had to do it all over again, I would not hesitate to use the FEC.”
Richard and Velma plan to continue working with their FEC counselor after their recent success with budgeting. “We do plan to continue to seek the advice of Ms. Harris here at the FEC. We greatly appreciate all of the support and encouragement that we received to stay focused on our goal.” They highly recommend the FEC as a resource for those trying to improve their finances and reach their long-term goals.
